Safety Program

hawksafetyAt DFB Group, all employees are to put safety first. DFB Group is committed to its comprehensive safety program.

New Employee Orientation

Upon arrival for their first day of work, all new DFB Group employees are given a comprehensive safety orientation. Orientation includes a safety presentation, required documentation covering our safety systems in place, and introduction to safe work practices. New employees are then given a tour of the DFB Group facilities where they are introduced to their co-workers and identified as a new employee. Upon completion of orientation, new employees begin work under strict supervision from a foreman to ensure that all safety protocols are well understood.

New employees participate in DFB Group's New Employee Identification Program. New employees are easily identified for the first 60 days, helping foremen ensure the safety of less experienced employees.

Program Fundamentals

All levels of employees are involved in the implementation and communication of our safety program. Reliable feedback of our safety program is retrieved for immediate hazard response from:

  • Daily Toolbox meetings which take place before employees begin work to effectively remind employees about the importance of safety in their daily tasks as well as encourage two-way communication.
  • Work Place Observation Cards which are designed to identify safe-work and risky behavior and in-turn provide positive or corrective feedback.
  • Job Hazard Analysis Cards which are used to identify potential hazardous materials and activities related to specific jobs and projects.
  • TapRoot Root Cause Analysis Program which is designed to solve safety problems both reactively and proactively. TapRoot is an incident investigation program used by leading companies around the world that uses advanced theory and technology to identify the root cause of major accidents, near misses and everyday incidents. DFB Group currently has a TapRoot Investigation trained team to identify root causes of workplace incidents.

Emergency Response Plan

Each of DFB Group's facilities has its own Emergency Response Plan in place. The facility's plan is published, identified and discussed with all employees.

In addition, Emergency Response Plans are created specific to job sites and are communicated with all employees before work begins.

Employee Mentoring Program

An Employee Mentoring program is in place where shop floor employees are matched with an employee from our quality and safety department. This program is effective in demonstrating the daily tasks and commitment needed to ensure a safe work place is in order. Employees finish the program with a better understanding of our safety culture and leadership attributes for health and safety are thus transferred to all employee levels.

schoolStudent Mentoring Program

DFB Group invests in the future of its safety culture by offering several safety apprenticeship and co-op opportunities for local college and university students. Additionally, DFB Group employees give presentations about the importance of workplace safety to local highschool students on a regular basis.

Management Assessment

Bi-weekly management meetings are held where the first note on the agenda is to discuss DFB Group's compliance with its safety policy. Safety performance statistics are then reviewed and communicated to all employees at quarterly Town Hall Meetings. DFB Group is constantly working towards improving its safety statistics and enriching its safety culture.

In addition to bi-weekly management meetings and quarterly Town Hall Meetings, a Safety Summit is held each year. The Safety Summit is a full day event which serves as an open forum to not only promote the importance of safety to employees of all levels but also to identify any gaps in our safety program.

A strong leadership commitment to safety allows DFB Group to attract and retain reliable employees who are assured that a safe return from work is the company's number one priority.
